Often I am asked, “Why don’t you go out and kill people? You have no God to answer to, so is it okay?” Of course I don’t think murder is okay. I think the person who asked that understands that also. Their question is asking where an atheist’s morals come from. Basically, atheists go by what’s good for humankind. From what I've seen, they’re always willing to lend a hand or help out in some way, like anyone else does. There’s a quote that says “Two hands working are more useful than a thousand clasped in prayer. While a theist is praying for a miracle, an atheist is working on the miracle. That’s why it seems like prayers work.”

I pose this question to you: When was the last time you heard about an angry atheist breaking into a church and killing several people? I’ve never heard of it. In history God has been one of the leading causes of murder amongst people. Islams killed Jews. Christians killed ... um ... anyone pretty much in the crusades.. It was all in the name of their god. You never hear about that atheist crusade, or atheist holy wars. My point is that atheists care about other people just as much (or in some cases, more than) their religious counterparts. Nevermind if they complain about the Ten Commandments in a courthouse. That's the extent of their rage. Pretty sweet deal, eh?

Pol  Pot -- atheist.  Communist China &  Russia to name a few...there many atheist leaders that have lead many christians to their deaths and persecution simply b/c of their belief in God.

My friend, you need to get your head out of the sand!

I'm not exactly sure I ever said that there have never been atheist leaders of poor intent. But Pol Pot didn't kill those people out of religious hatred, from anything I've ever seen. That's like calling Communism a religious movement. I'm talking about people who kill others only because of their religion, not their political stance or threat to any certain regime.

Look at the extremist Muslim terrorists. They kill solely because we are seen as infidels. It isn't some side effect from trying to shift how their government works.

The point of this was to show that the common atheist is as just as a common theist. Apparently that doesn't settle well with some people to think that atheists are any more than heathens. But alright, let's have fun with this:

Adolf Hitler - Christian. Not traditionally, but believed in and worshiped Christ. Exterminated six million Jews. Why? Because they were Jews.

The Which Hunts are responsible for the deaths of nearly a hundred thousand. The Spanish Inquisition killed tens of thousands. The French Wars of Religion in the late 16th century claimed millions of lives over differences between catholics and protestants. The Thirty Years' War began as a religious conflict. Millions died there as well. And, of course, the Crusades.

Yay for religious morality.
